Nahapetyan's family is again targeted by the authorities. Armen Nahapetyan's house was searched
Yerevan, December 22, 2021 On December 19, law enforcement officers searched the house of Armen Nahapetyan, an opposition figure and a member of the Republican Party of Armenia. Let's remind that he is the brother of the former deputy of the republican party Koryun Nahapetyan and his family members. Nahapetyan's daughter Anna Nahapetyan and son Gagik Nahapetyan are also involved in active political and opposition activities and are currently supporters of the "Armenia" alliance. According to the official version, they carried out preparations for protest actions at home, they hid documents that could contain confidential information. After the search, Armen Nahapetyan, his daughter, Anna Nahapetyan, and his brother, Gagik Nahapetyan, were taken to the National Security Service for questioning. We managed to get in touch with Koryun Nahapetyan and get some information about the actions carried out against their family members. According to the former deputy, during the interrogation of Armen, Anna and Gagik Nahapetyan, the law enforcement officers were particularly interested in the meetings held with international observers and representatives of foreign human rights organizations. Anna Nahapetyan, who during the extraordinary parliamentary elections of 2021 was engaged by the "Armenia" bloc as a translator and participated in meetings with international delegations, was requested to provide information about the content of those meetings, as well as possible international connections and funding sources of the bloc. The Nahapetyan family considers what happened as another manifestation of political persecution against them for years. Let's remind that Koryun Nahapetyan is currently under criminal prosecution and has a restriction on his absence from the country, while Gagik Nahapetyan was abused by law enforcement officers months ago. Now even the women of the family, in the form of Anna Nahapetyan, have been targeted. The office of the Alliance of Armenia interprets what happened as pure political persecution, completely groundless actions from a legal point of view, which can actually be characterized as retaliation against Nahapetyans for their active opposition activities and anti-government rhetoric. As of today, the law enforcement agencies have not specified the exact basis on which they searched Nahapetyan's house and interrogated them, and the hypothesis that documents containing secret information were kept in Nahapetyan's house has not been confirmed.
