Just three days before the extraordinary parliamentary elections, the largest rally organized by the opposition took place today in the Republic Square, in which thousands of citizens participated to express their dissatisfaction with the policies of the current authorities. Robert Kocharyan, the second president and head of the Armenia Alliance, also took part in this decisive meeting. "For years, the Armenian army has been considered the most capable in the region, but today we are facing a monstrous betrayal, which destroyed our reputation, position and 30 years of victory," Kocharyan said in his speech. During today's rally, slogans and speeches were made by opposition politicians, civil activists and public figures. At the invitation of the president, the president of Docando Federation Arayik Avetisyan, Saribek Ovoyan also participated in this pre-election rally, who together with their Armenian students expressed their support for the opposition and the second president, Robert Kocharyan. "We have outlined the borders of our country only with victories, glory and honor, we have raised our flag with pride and listened with excitement as our national anthem is played in different countries of the world, but now we are being forced to reconcile with defeat, to get used to yielding and to adapt to the new reality. We declare that we are not a losing species and we will never accept the government that leads us to defeat and disgrace, violates our national interests," declared Araik Avetisyan, emphasizing once again that they must win in these elections for the sake of Armenia and the future of the Armenian people. "The election is not only the ballot, it is a responsibility to one's country, family and future generations," the president of the federation said, calling on the participants of the rally to be demanding. According to the organizers, the June 18 rally aimed to show the real extent of public discontent and the unbreakable strength of the opposition. After the speeches, President Kocharyan, Arayik Avetisyan and other well-known participants of the meeting approached and talked with the citizens present at the meeting and answered their questions. The rally was of a peaceful nature, but it was held under heightened police control, as it was the largest-scale rally of the pre-election period today, and it caused serious concern among Pashinyan and his relatives.
