Sewage and production waters of Gegharkunik marz are flowing into Lake Sevan.

The main reason for the greening of Sevan is the lack of water. According to Hakob Sanasaryan, president of the Union of Greens, environmentalist, Lake Sevan once had 58 billion, and now it is probably 32-33 billion cubic meters, this is the main problem of greening. And the other problem, which is no less important, is that the sewage and industrial waters of the entire Gegharkunik marz are flowing into Lake Sevan. According to the environmentalist, because of this, the water of Lake Sevan will no longer be suitable for drinking and irrigation purposes, and it will have a great impact on the fauna of the lake. The environmentalist states that nothing has been done to restore the water level in the lake for years. "The policy of the Republic of Armenia for 25 years is that the average level should be raised, but this is false, it is a lie, the level is not raised so that there is no tension among the people. The authorities do not say that millions of funds are needed to raise the level and they are deceiving, this is simply a scam. "If a system is constantly polluted, it is not restored, it threatens full flowering and swamping, and eventually it will lose its importance as a source of drinking water in this region," he said. According to Sanasaryan, water is often released from Lake Sevan when there is plenty of water. "What I have seen with my own eyes regarding Lake Sevan is a terrible thing." It should be noted that a few days ago the Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan announced that this year Lake Sevan will turn green again, but it is still planned to release water from the lake.
