"When we started work in February 2023, there was an impression that Armenia was not safe. escalation was also expected. Of course, all that changed over the years. the situation has calmed down, I can say that after the August events in Washington, the situation on the border is quite calm," said Markus Ritter, the head of the EU observation mission in Armenia, on the air of H1 today. The head of the mission noticed that after the signing and ratification of the peace agreement, they will no longer carry out a mission on the border. Reacting on the public air to the observation that there is a clause in the pre-signed agreement that the parties should not bring a third party force to the border, Ritter said. "We know that there are such plans. That is, there are plans that when the peace agreement is signed and ratified, we will no longer be needed, there will be no need for our mission to be at the border, but we will continue to visit the villages. As I already said, this will happen when the peace agreement is ratified. at the moment it is the government's wish, but at the moment there is also a mutual agreement to continue our work." By the way, Ritter will finish his work soon and it is not yet known who will be the new head of the EU observation mission in Armenia.
